Frequently asked questions
How do you work out a progress claim?
You apply the percentage completed to the contract value to get the work done, then subtract what earlier claims already invoiced. The difference is the amount of this claim.
What is the 5% retention?
The client may hold back up to 5% of the works to guarantee proper completion (French Act no. 71-584). It is released a year after handover, unless snags remain, or can be replaced by a bank guarantee.
Is the retention worked out on the net or the gross amount?
The retention applies to the gross amount of each progress claim or deposit. It is deducted from what is payable, not from the VAT owed.
